Master of Science in Continuing Education - General
This degree does not qualify a student for any
teaching certificate in the State of Alabama.
This degree is designed to meet the needs of those
students who are interested in pursuing work as a
means of personal development and/or preparation for
certain professional areas requiring a master's
degree. To be admitted to this program, the
prospective student must meet all requirements for
admission to the School of Graduate Studies.

Note: With the exception of courses with
prerequisites, courses may be taken in any order.
MAT/GRE Score: Is an admission requirement.
Students can be admitted conditionally without this
score. However, no student will be allowed to
take more than 12 hours of graduate credit prior to
meeting this requirement.
GPA: Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 overall
and no grade less than a "C" can be counted in the
program.
Comprehensive Examination: All students are
required to pass a comprehensive examination in
order to successfully complete a master's degree
program. This examination is scheduled each
semester including the Summer semester and is
designed to determine the candidate's ability in
his/her particular academic field of study.
Application to take the examination must be made two
weeks prior to the examinations. Students will
be eligible to take this examination when they are
within six to nine hours of completing all course
work for a master's degree.
Application for Degree: Each candidate for a
master's degree must apply for the degree through
the Registrar's Office no later than the semester
prior to the semester in which he/she expects to
meet requirements for the degree. Application
forms are available online or in the Registrar's
Office. It is the responsibility of the
student to file this application. The last day
for filing an application for a degree is shown on
the University's academic calendar. Students
who fail to meet the degree requirements after
filing for the degree or diploma must refile for the
degree when requirements are completed.
Area of Concentration: There is no area of
concentration for this program and "Continuing
Education" will be listed on the transcript under
the MSCE degree.
Transfer Courses: With the approval of the
appropriate academic dean, up to nine hours of
graduate credit may be transferred into this
program. No transfer credit below the grade of
"B" is acceptable. No transfer credit over
nine years old will be accepted.
