Alpha Phi Alpha

A true brotherhood that is based on academics leadership and trust shines in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The prestigious Pi Delta chapter is involved in stressing the aims of Alpha on the campus of The University of West Alabama. We have achieved excellence since our founding day of November 12, 1983. Winning the highest GPA award for two consecutive years, service projects, and community service such as; visiting the area nursing home, and mentoring students/peers, and reading stories to the children in Livingston's Head Start program are just a few of the chapters accomplishments. The brotherhood of this great fraternity seeks Scholarship, Fellowship, and Leadership in its aspirants.

It was an ice cold day on Dec. 4, 1906 on the Ivy League campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York when seven distinguished gentlemen had a vision to form the world's first black intercollegiate Greek organization known today as Alpha Phi Alpha. If the world is to be improved from teenage pregnancy, drugs, child abuse, and many other problems, the solution must begin with us. We are alive and can make a big difference.

The motto of Alpha Phi Alpha is "First of All, Servants of All, We shall Transcend All." This motto compels all Alpha men to proclaim unity and academics. The business of education and service are quite important, and they are thoroughly stressed. The prestigious Pi Delta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha has membership in many organizations: Blue Key Honor Fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, Student Government Association, Housing Staff, Sports Information, and the Campus Activities Board (CAB). The chapter attempts to have involvement in all activities. We encourage all students to focus on their academics and to get involved in campus life.

Delta Chi

Delta Chi was founded in 1890 at Cornell University.  The Livingston chapter was established in 1965.  The brothers of Delta Chi have held many places of leadership on campus and have achieved in every aspect of university life.  The Delta Chi fraternity recognizes and emphasizes the four aspects of college life:  scholastic achievement, athletic competitiveness, fun and enjoyment, and community involvement.  If you are looking for a fraternity that is something different, then it may be Delta Chi.  Within our circle of active young men is a common bond of individuals that share a true brotherhood.  Delta Chi is living, learning and loving.  Explore Delta Chi, compare and assure yourself that you can have the total experience of a fraternity within our brotherhood.  Remember that joining a social fraternity is something you do only once in your life.  This decision will have tremendous impact on your future in college and after college.

 Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc.

In 1911, at Indiana University, the fraternity was founded.  The aim of the fraternity was to unite college men in a bond of togetherness and brotherhood, and this still holds true today.

The Iota Theta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was formed on the campus of Livingston University in the spring of 1975.  Since this chapter began the number has grown by more than 3 fold.  Members of the fraternity have taken leadership positions in academics, the SGA, University Sports, Athletic Training and many other campus clubs and activities.

Kappa Alpha Psi is involved in many community, civic, campus and other various kinds of activities.  All of these are important ingredients which help to make Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. successful.

Omega Psi Phi

On November 17, 1911, at Howard University, undergraduate students, with the assistance of their faculty adviser, gave birth to the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.  From the initials of the Greek phrase meaning "friendship is essential to the soul", the name Omega Psi Phi was derived.  The phrase was selected as the motto.  Manhood, scholarship, perseverance and uplife were adopted as cardinal principles.

Omega Psi Phi continues to flourish largely because of the Founders Love.  The Founders selected and attracted men of similar ideals and characteristics.  It is not by accident that many of America's great black men are/were Omega Men.  To this date, there are very few Americans whose lives have not been touched by a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Omega has a rich heritage to be protected, celebrated and enhanced.

Phi Beta Sigma

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity was founded January 9, 1914, by the most honorable A. Langston Taylor, the most honorable Leonard F. Morse and the most honorable Charles I. Brown.  These three young men had a vision in which all African American men from various walks of lfie could unify for a common purpose in the uplift of their people.  Phi Beta Sigma is the model organization for the "inclusive we" standard of our philosophies; brotherhood, scholarship and serivce.  Since its founding date, Phi Beta Sigma has spread throughout the United States and beyond with chapters now in Africa, Asia and soon, Canada.  We have many recognizable faces who are members of our wondrous band including Actors, Politicians, NFL, NBA and MLB stars.  Our community involvement includes March of Dimes and Sigma Beta club just to name a few.  We are referred to as, "the people's fraternity."  Our push for excellence and achievement never waivers.  Our Cause Speeds on its Way!

The Mu Kappa Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. was founded September 30, 1980 at the then, Livingston University.  Nearly 34 years later, we are still going strong right here at the University of West Alabama.  Our goal is to always serve our community and student body in the ways that matter the most as well as recruit African American men who we feel will be a benefit to the organization and the university.  We will always live by and uphold our motto:  Culture for Service, Service for Humanity.

Sigma Pi

Sigma Pi is a national social fraternity that was founded in 1897 at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana. We have over 130 chapters that span the United States of America and Canada. On February 21, 1996, Sigma Pi was founded on the University of West Alabama campus. Our membership consists of a diverse group of individuals that come from many different places, but share the ideals upon which our Fraternity was started.

Our national philanthropy is American Red Cross and we help them out in various events such as Project Share and Disaster Relief. We participate in all intramural sports and we have members who are active in many campus organizations such as SGA, UWA Ambassadors, the American Chemists Society, and BioDiversities. Many of our brothers are also members of honor societies including Phi Eta Sigma, Blue Key National Honor Fraternity, Alpha Chi, and Cardinal Key Honor Society. We have various social events throughout the year including theme events such as Nuclear Party.

By joining Sigma Pi, you can add to your college experience through learning leadership and character developing qualities that will benefit you for life. Not only will Sigma Pi allow first year students to adapt to college smoothly, but it will also make any college student's adventures more enjoyable.

Tau Kappa Epsilon

On the cold night of January 10, 1899, five students of Illinois Wesleyan University met to propound a new society on the campus. That night, the Knights of Classic Lore was formed...the society was later to be known as Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

What about being a part of the largest social network in the world. TKE is not only the oldest tradition for a Greek social fraternity on the UWA campus, but it is the largest social fraternity in the world, with over 250,000-fraternity members' worldwide.

But what is TKE? TKE is friendship. It is deep friendship and mutual understanding among a group of men who have similar ideas, hopes, and purposes. Such a bond of friendship and understanding furnishes the indispensable incentive, which helps the college man develop into a poised, self-confident adult.

TKE is the sum of its members. Each member has his own characteristics that make him special. TKE draws these individuals together into that bond of friendship and forges their many talents into one organization. The individuals are not changed, but the group is made stronger by their various contributions.

TKE may be for you. The University of West Alabama chapter (Iota Upsilon) welcomes you to "check us out." Any member will be glad to answer questions and you are extended an open invitation to visit our house near the Lake. TKE is Unique!
