muse (Student Newspaper)

muse serves as the latest iteration of UWA's student newspaper, a publication that began as early as 1897 under the banner The Well of Livingston.  Initially "published semi-occasionally for the young ladies of the Alabama Normal College for Girls," The Well has been through as many changes as the University itself.  By 1910, the student-run newspaper morphed into The Lights; Campus Lights and Livingston Life followed until the name was shortened to The Life in 1995 to reflect the university's name change to The University of West Alabama.

To remain relevant in an increasingly digital world of instant information,  The Life was re-imagined as muse.  In addition to a renewed focus on campus news, acitivites, and sports, muse now incorporates entertainment, arts, and music.  As an additional result of the larger, 24-page format, muse more closely resembles a traditional, weekly, community newspaper, providing real-life work experience for students seeking an Intregrated Marketing Communications degree or journalism minor.  muse staff members are paid for their contributions as they enhance their skills in writing, editing, photography, layout and design, advertising sales, accounting, staff management, and distribution.

To become part of the muse family, contact a staff member or the faculty advisor in Wallace Hall, room 108A.
