Interdisciplinary Arts Comprehensive Major

Degree programs offered by the College of Liberal Arts and its departments share a common core of courses. Students in these programs must complete the Basic Curriculum, and the major curriculum listed below.

Major Requirements: 54 hours
Students construct their degree program of study by selecting two IA Major Areas of Concentration (I, II, III, IV) and completing all coursework designated for these areas as listed below. In addition, students select a third Minor Area of Concentration (I, II, III, IV) and complete at least the twelve hours designated for the Minor Area as listed below. Also, all IA majors are required to complete the three Fine Arts basic curriculum courses: , and . Major Area Concentration I: Art 21 hours
Major Area Concentration II: Music 21 hours
Two of the following: 6 hours

- In addition to meeting the course requirements, a student choosing music as a primary category in the IA major is required to participate in an ensemble musical organization for at least four semesters and participate in student recitals and attend University-sponsored music programs as stipulated by the music faculty.
Major Area Concentration III: Theatre 21 hours

Major Area Concentration IV: Creative Writing 21 hours
Twelve hours from the following:
Any combination with coursework including both writing fiction and writing poetry. The following two contemporary literature courses:
Three hours from the following:
Any combination. These may be repeated. Minor Area Concentrations
Art Concentration: 12 hours
Music Concentration: 12 hours
Two of the following: 6 hours
Theatre Concentration: 12 hours
One of the following: 3 hours
Creative Writing Concentration: 12 hours
Six hours of creative writing taken as desired from the following courses: Three hours of a literature course:
Three hours of either a contemporary fiction course or a contemporary poetry course (EH 421 or other topical course). Three hours of the following:
Three hours of working on two of the following: Livingston Press, The Muse, or The Sucarnochee Review. |
