Interdisciplinary Arts Comprehensive Major

Degree programs offered by the College of Liberal Arts and its departments share a common core of courses. Students in these programs must complete the Basic Curriculum, and the major curriculum listed below. The Interdisciplinary Arts Comprehensive degree allows a student to create a personalized multidisciplinary degree in the Fine Arts. A student pursuing the IAC degree must complete at least 21 hours of coursework in two separate major concentrations from the following disciplines: Art, Music, Theatre, and Creative Writing. In addition to the 42 hours, students must complete an additional 15 hours of coursework from any of the four disciplines.

I. Major Concentrations: 42 hours
A student pursuing the IAC degree must complete at least 21 hours of coursework in at least two separate major concentrations (A, B, C, D) for a minimum of 42 hours of the 57 hour total. Coursework completed as part of the basic curriculum requirements may not count as credit towards the major program of study.

- In addition to meeting the course requirements, a student choosing music as a primary category in the IA major is required to participate in an ensemble musical organization for at least four semesters and participate in student recitals and attend University-sponsored music programs as stipulated by the music faculty.
Choose three credit hours from the following:
D. Creative Writing: 21 hours
Twelve hours from the following:
Any combination with coursework including (EH 379 ) and writing poetry (EH 369 ).
Six hours from the following:
- Six hours of literature courses from the 300-400 level.
Three hours from the following:
Any combination. These may be repeated.
II. Additional Coursework: 15 hours
A. Introductory Coursework: 3 hours***
B. Electives: 12 hours****

****Courses completed as part of a Major Concentration (Section I) cannot be counted towards a student's electives.
