College of Business and Technology Curriculum Components

Degree programs in the College are composed of three curriculum components:
- The General Education Basic Curriculum Component is normally completed within the first two years. This component meets the general education requirement and provides the skills and knowledge of the arts, sciences, mathematics, and the humanities required of competent, efficient, self-fulfilling business graduates. The Basic Curriculum Component must be completed with at least a 2.0 GPA.
- The Business Professional Component provides a common educational experience to all business majors by including topics that are an integral part of business and with which all business graduates must be familiar. The professional component must be completed with at least a 2.0 GPA.
- The Major Degree Component provides career choices and allows specialization. Students may choose from Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Computer Information Systems, Engineering Technology, Technology, and Industrial Maintenance. The major and minor (if selected) must be completed with at least a 2.0 GPA.

Basic Curriculum Component
The College of Business and Technology requires 47-48 hours of General Education which may be satisfied by completing the basic curriculum outlined below.
I. Written Composition: 6 hours

C. Three semester hours from the following:
III. Natural Sciences and Mathematics: 14 hours
A. Six to seven semester hours from the following:
B. Eight semester hours of approved science courses with laboratory or eight semester hours from the following:
IV. History, Social, and Behavioral Sciences: 12 hours
A. Three semester hours from the following:
B. Three semester hours from the following:
C. Six semester hours from the following:
V . Computer Information Systems: 3 hours
A. Three semester hours from the following:
A. Three to five semester hours from the following:
Business Professional Component
The Business Professional Component requires 39-40 hours and must be completed by all students in the Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Management, and Marketing majors. Students majoring in the Automotive Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, and Technology programs are not required to complete the Business Professional Component Students in the Quantitative Finance and Econometrics major are required to complete 34 hours in the Business Professional Component. Students in the Computer Information Systems major are required to complete 37 hours.
Note(s):
- *One additional elective hour will be required with this course. This course is available only with permission of the Dean.
- It is recommended to take the above courses in the following order: AC 211 , AC 212 , BA 263 , MK 300 , MG 300 , FI 300 , BQ 371 , MG 370 , MG 390 , BA 420 , BA 450 , MG 490 . All incoming juniors should begin the Professional Development series of courses with BA 401 and complete the series consecutively until completing BA 404 in the student's last semester.
- Should the student complete the required Business Professional Component courses, but not the required hours due to differences in transfer credit, the student should complete the remaining hours at the discretion of the Dean.
Major Degree Component
The Major Degree Component requires 30-36 semester hours for most programs. Students in the Quantitative Finance and Econometrics major are required to complete 40-41 hours in the Major Degree Component. Students in the Engineering Technology major are required to complete 58 hours. The Major Degree Component allows the student to specialize in a specific degree area. In addition to the Major Degree Component, the student must take three semester hours of free (not restricted to the College of Business and Technology) electives in order to complete the minimum 123 semester hours required for degree completion. If the student enters with fewer than 20 hours, the number of free elective hours will be reduced to one. Minors are not required in the College of Business and Technology.
