Sociology and Social Work Dual Degree

This program allows an undergraduate student to attend the University of West Alabama for approximately three years and then transfer to the School of Social Work at the University of Alabama. In order for a student to become a Dual-Degree candidate at the University of Alabama, he or she must have a recommendation from the Dual-Degree coordinator at the University of West Alabama, have a minimum of a 2.25 GPA overall and a 2.5 GPA in Social Work classes in the required work at UWA, and satisfy the admission requirements of the School of Social Work at the University of Alabama. After completing the academic requirements of the two cooperating institutions, the student will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of West Alabama and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Alabama.

University of West Alabama Requirements: 89 hours
I. University Experience: 2 hours
Two semester hours from the following: II. Written Composition: 6 hours
Six semester hours from one of the following sequences: III. Literature: 6 hours
Six semester hours from the following sequences: VI. Speech: 3 hours
Three semester hours from the following: V. Fine Arts: 6 hours
Six semester hours from the following: VI. Biology: 8 hours
Eight semester hours from the following: VII. Natural Sciences: 4 hours
Four semester hours from the following: VIII. Mathematics: 3 hours
Three semester hours from the following: IX. History: 6 hours
Six semester hours from the following sequences: X. Social Science: 6 hours
Six semester hours from the following: XI. Psychology: 9 hours
Nine semester hours from the following: XII. Sociology: 18 hours
Eighteen hours from the following: XIII. Social Work: 12 hours
