I. Unconditional Admission Required Courses: 45 hours

*If an Introduction to Special Education course was completed prior to unconditional admission to Atl. A. program, another approved diversity course is required.

** Students working toward the M.A.T. degree will take six (6) additional semester hours in their teaching field. Students pursuing the M.A.T. History (Certification) must complete at least nine (9) hours of coursework in U.S. History and nine (9) hours of coursework in non-U.S. History. The nine (9) hours of U.S. History must include courses covering both pre- and post-Civil War U.S. History.

The educator candidate shall maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 or better in all courses in the approved program as verified on an official transcript with no grade less than "C."

A full-time internship in an approved school setting is also required in the Alternative A Program. The educator candidate must be within four semester hours of completing all coursework excluding internship or have approval of the dean. Under no circumstances will the internship be waived. The deadline to apply for Fall Internship is February 1. The deadline for Spring Internship is September 1. On-Campus seminars are required during the Internship semester.

 

Governance


The Educator Preparation Program and the Educator Certification Program are governed by the Alabama State Department of Education, and the College of Education reserves the right to change requirements in these programs at any time when such changes are mandated by the State Department.
