SY 480. Sociology and Criminal Justice Capstone (3)

This course is designed to help students access the job market in a criminal justice-related occupation, and/or apply for graduate studies in the field. Its main component is an in-depth study of a current issue in criminal justice, finalized with a research paper and an in-class presentation. Research topics are selected by students, and can range from a general social crime-related problem, to very specific issues faced by institutions in the US Criminal Justice System (e.g. police departments, prisons, probation and parole, juvenile correctional facilities, etc.). A job search portfolio supplements the research paper and completes the assessment for this course. Prerequisites: At least twelve hours of SY or CJ beyond the 100 level, including SY 370.   Course fee: $22.50.
