I. Unconditional Admission Required Courses:
A. Professional Courses: 28 hours
B. Teaching Field**:
Twelve (12) hours of advisor approved electives in history. II. Additional Required Courses: 4 hours
- ED 335 - Field Experience Sec/P-12 I (1)
- ED 336 - Field Experience Sec/P-12 II (1)
- ED 435 - Field Experience Sec/P-12 III (1)
- ED 436 - Field Experience Sec/P-12 IV (1)
OR - Ninety (90) hours of documented clinical experience for each of the field experience courses (360 hours if receiving credit for all four courses). Hours must be approved by the Dean.
Notes:
* Students who have previously completed the Special Education requirement will take an advisor approved graduate elective. ** Students working toward the M.A.T. degree will take six (6) additional semester hours in their teaching field. Students pursuing the M.A.T. History (Certification) must complete at least nine (9) hours of coursework in U.S. History and nine (9) hours of coursework in non-U.S. History. The nine (9) hours of U.S. History must include courses covering both pre- and post-Civil War U.S. History. A full time internship in an approved school setting is also required in the Alternative A Program. The student must be within four semester hours of completing all coursework excluding internship. Under no circumstances will the internship be waived. The deadline to apply for Fall Internship is February 1. The deadline for Spring Internship is September 1. Governance
The Teacher Education Program and the Teacher Certification Program are governed by the Alabama State Department of Education, and the College of Education reserves the right to change requirements in these programs at any time when such changes are mandated by the State Department. |
