Degree programs offered by the College of Liberal Arts and its departments share a common core of courses. Students in these programs must complete the Basic Curriculum and the major curriculum detailed below. This degree is comprehensive and does not require a minor or second major. The Public Safety Comprehensive degree allows a student to create a multidisciplinary degree in fields related to public service. In addition, it allows those who have worked in related fields to earn credit toward the degree for professional certification. Students must select courses from three selected areas of concentration listed below to complete the major.

Public Safety Comprehensive Major Requirements: 57 hours
I. Major Concentration: 45 hours
Student must complete 15 hours of coursework in three of the concentrations (A-H) listed below for 45 hours of the 57-hour total.
C. Criminal Justice: 15 hours
D. Political Science: 15 hours
E. Homeland Security: 15 hours
G. Computer Science: 15 hours
H. Certification Credit
Students who have professional certification and training in a public safety related field may apply for course credit for their certifications. Students assessed as having certification credit equivalent to 15 hours may count that credit as one of the three areas of concentration. If a student has certification credit exceeding 15 hours, only credit assessed as equivalent to 300- or 400-level course work will be accepted. Total certification credit cannot exceed 30 hours. Hours in excess of 15 may be counted as public safety electives or as general electives.
- TY 2xx (maximum of 15 hours)
- TY 3xx and TY 4xx (maximum of 15 hours)

II. Public Safety Electives: 12 hours
Additional courses in PY, SY, CJ, PS, HS, MG, CS.
NOTE: Prerequisite coursework from other areas may be included if it was not counted as part of the basic curriculum. Students who have substantial 200-level credit in major concentrations should take 300- and 400-level electives to ensure that the graduation requirement of 40 hours of upper-level coursework is being met.
General Electives: 13 hours
