Sociology Major: Community Health Track

The Sociology Community Health Track emphasizes research and theory focused on health as a socially determined outcome. This major provides an excellent complement to minors in Social Work and Psychology. Students take a range of courses including community studies, marriage and family, gender, aging, race and ethnic relations, and social inequality. In addition to opportunities for performing original research, students within the Sociology Community Health Track are encouraged to interact with a variety of health-service providing organizations around the state to gain practical hands-on experience. Graduates of the Sociology Community Health Track go on to work in a range of occupations in local, state, and non-profit organizations, as well as pursue graduate degrees in sociology, social work, or public health.
Degree programs offered by the College of Liberal Arts and its departments share a common core of courses. Students in these programs must complete the Basic Curriculum , and the major curriculum listed below, as well as a minor or second major and a complementary number of advisor-approved general electives.
