Sociology Major: Traditional Track

The sociology major provides a solid foundation for understanding human behavior and social processes. The Sociology Traditional Track places an emphasis on the scientific application of sociology including research methodology and statistical analysis. Students have a range of elective courses to choose from including classes on: social inequality, race and ethnic relations, gender and marriage and family, crime and delinquency, community studies and health. Opportunities exist for students interested in conducting their own research and independent study as well. Graduates of the sociology program go on to variety of occupations in human and community services, criminal justice and law enforcement, and work in a variety of non-profit and government agencies. Graduates of this degree track also pursue higher education degrees in Sociology, Social Work, Divinity, and Law.

Degree programs offered by the College of Liberal Arts and its departments share a common core of courses. Students in these programs must complete the Basic Curriculum , and the major curriculum listed below, as well as a minor or second major and a complementary number of advisor-approved general electives.
