English Major: Creative Writing Track

Degree programs offered by the College of Liberal Arts and its departments share a common core of courses. Students in these programs must complete the Basic Curriculum , and the major curriculum listed below.

A. Students who enroll at UWA as Freshmen must complete one of the following courses:

HR 101. Honors Freshman Forum Credits: 0-1

B. Students enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts Degree must also complete one of the following foreign language sequences:

SP 101. Introductory Spanish I Credits: 4
SP 102. Introductory Spanish II Credits: 4
OR
SP 103. Intensive Review of Introductory Spanish Credits: 4
OR
FR 101. Introductory French I Credits: 4
FR 102. Introductory French II Credits: 4
OR
FR 103. Intensive Review of Introductory French Credits: 4
OR
FL 101. Introductory Foreign Language I Credits: 4
FL 102. Introductory Foreign Language II Credits: 4
OR
FL 103. Intensive Review of Introductory Foreign Language Credits: 4

Major Requirements: 36 hours

EH 301. Advanced Composition Credits: 3
EH 302. Introduction to Research Credits: 3
EH 422. Shakespeare Credits: 3

At least one of the following sequences: 6 hours

EH 221. British Literature I Credits: 3
EH 222. British Literature II Credits: 3
EH 231. American Literature I Credits: 3
EH 232. American Literature II Credits: 3

Note(s):

Basic Curriculum requirements call for either of the American or British literature sequences; for the English major, the student must take the other sequence.

At least one of the following 400-level courses in British Literature before 1800: 3 hours

EH 421. Chaucer and Selected Medieval Literature Credits: 3
EH 423. English Literature of the Seventeenth Century Credits: 3
EH 424. Restoration and Eighteenth-Century British Literature Credits: 3
EH 426. The English Novel Credits: 3

At least one of the following 400-level courses in British Literature after 1800: 3 hours

EH 410. Twentieth-Century Poetry Credits: 3

EH 450. Contemporary Fiction Credits: 3
EH 498. Selected Topics in English Credits: 1-3
