V. Other Core Requirements

A. Students who enroll at UWA as Freshmen must complete one of the following courses:

UWA 101. Freshman Seminar Credits: 1
OR
HR 101. Honors Freshman Forum Credits: 0-1

B. Students enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts Degree must also complete one of the foreign language sequences:

SP 101. Introductory Spanish I Credits: 4
SP 102. Introductory Spanish II Credits: 4
OR
SP 103. Intensive Review of Introductory Spanish Credits: 4
OR
FR 101. Introductory French I Credits: 4
FR 102. Introductory French II Credits: 4
OR
FR 103. Intensive Review of Introductory French Credits: 4
OR
FL 101. Introductory Foreign Language I Credits: 4
FL 102. Introductory Foreign Language II Credits: 4
OR
FL 103. Intensive Review of Introductory Foreign Language Credits: 4

Major Requirements: 36 hours

One of the following two sequences is used to meet the College Liberal Arts Basic Curriculum requirement. History Majors must take both sequences, but only one counts towards the major requirement.

* HY 101. History of Western Civilization I Credits: 3
* HY 102. History of Western Civilization II Credits: 3
OR
* HY 103. Honors Western Civilization Credits: 3
* HY 104. Honors Western Civilization II Credits: 3
OR
* HY 211. American History I Credits: 3
* HY 212. American History II Credits: 3
Note(s):
* Basic Curriculum requirements call for either the US or Western Civilization sequence; for the History major, the student must take both sequences.
HY 300. Historical Methodologies and Practices Credits: 3
HY 308. The Military History of the United States, 1755-1975 Credits: 3
HY 403. The First World War Credits: 3
HY 405. War of the Modern Age Credits: 3
HY 406. Senior Capstone for Military History Concentration Credits: 3
HY 423. The Military History of the Civil War Credits: 3
Approved electives in history from the 300-400 level* (12)

This program must be completed in conjunction with a minor or double major in another field.
**Majors will complete no fewer than 12 elective hours at the 400-level.
**All History majors must have at least one non-American elective.
